The ‘Church of the Holy Innocents’ symbolises the generosity and spirit of the people of the time. The church which was constructed on the site of the old stables was a generous gift from Mr Thomas Wall, the ice cream king and past member of the Child Emigration Society. It was designed in London by Sir Herbert Baker. Old Fairbridgians helped dig the foundations and further gifts were supplied by the London City church and friends in England. The Church now is a popular destination for locals and people further afield to be married. Painting the church brought back memories of viewing Van Goghs ‘The Church at Auvers’ at Musee d’Orsay in Paris.
