ARTIST STATEMENT
Onslow 100 years: A Celebration of Land and Legacy
This painting is all about capturing the vibrant spirit of Onslow today, while giving a nod to its rich history. I wanted to highlight the amazing blend of natural beauty and the unique structures that define this coastal gem.
As I worked on this piece, I drew inspiration from everything that makes Onslow special—the stunning Ashburton River, the breathtaking Mackerel Islands, and the lively flora and fauna that call this place home. The colors and textures you see reflect the diverse ecosystems and the rugged beauty of the landscape.
I also included the silhouettes of landmarks like the ANZAC Memorial and the Old Jetty. These aren’t just structures; they represent the stories and the community that have shaped Onslow over the years, from the pearling and fishing industries to the culture that still thrives here.
I hope this artwork invites you to explore the connections between Onslow’s past and present, and appreciate the harmony between its natural wonders and vibrant community. It’s a celebration of all that makes Onslow unique—a place where history and nature come together, creating a beautiful journey for everyone who visits.
